Death by Taxes
I started working on the business tax return last week and quickly realized that there was no way I was going to have it done by the deadline. I filed for a second extension to give myself some time to figure out what I'm doing and get my records in order. The partnership return I have to file -- Divine Reflections Photography is actually a partnership between myself and my wife -- is a lot more complicated that it looked at first glance.
I've decided to move my business accounting to a new program as I'm getting organized for this tax filing. I've been using Quicken, but I'm finding that I need something that is truly designed for small business use. I found an open source program called SQL-Ledger that I'm going to give a shot. It's a Linux program that uses a web browser interface. I installed it last week, and I'm starting to learn my way around the program. It's looking pretty good so far. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
My goal is to have the tax stuff done in another month, including the move to SQL-Ledger. It shouldn't be too hard, as long as I can figure out how to fill out the forms. :)
